Mesa M.S. Takes 1st, 2nd in Robotics Championship

The Mesa Middle School Vex Robotics team came away with first- and second-place awards at the Vex IQ Robotics State Championships, held February 15, 2014 at New Mexico State University.

Team members are Noah Steinman, Hunter Combs, Christian Perez and Isaac Rodriguez. Mesa teacher Michael Dominguez is the team sponsor. Noah and Hunter are eighth graders. and Isaac and Christian are seventh graders.

This was a first-time event, and included LCPS teams from Mesa, Camino Real, Vista, Picacho and Zia middle schools. Camino Real Middle School teams took third- and fifth place in the event, while a Zia Middle School team took fourth.

The competition required participating students “to build a robot to carry objects and place them into cylinders or on a specific position of a game field. The contestants were also required to work with other schools during a match to achieve the highest score possible. If that wasn’t difficult enough, team members had to change roles halfway through a match and still try to complete the task to the team’s best ability,” he said.

It’s never too early to plan for next year. Here are some books we have available throughout our library:
