During the month of October, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus.

These are the programs open to teens:

Wednesday, October 17th at 4:00 PM in the MakerSpace
Franken-Writing – Teens ages 11-18 can work on creating the next horror classic during this writing workshop.

Wednesday, October 24th at 4:00 PM in the MakerSpace
Franken-Art – The novel Frankenstein has been inspiring artists since its publication 200 years ago.  Teens ages 11-18 can work on their Frankenstein-inspired art during this program.

University Art Gallery

Exhibit: May 24 – July 14, 2018

Joint Opening Reception:  Friday, June 1, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM

New Mexico State University Art Gallery, in collaboration with The Las Cruces Museum of Art presents Here and Now, a regional, juried exhibition featuring works in all media. Here and Now includes works created by artists living and working within a 150 mile of Las Cruces. Paintings, prints, photographs, video, ceramics, and sculpture highlight the diverse approaches to creative expression found in Southern New Mexico and West Texas.

 

 

All City High School Senior Show

Graduating seniors from Las Cruces area high schools exhibit works in media including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. The exhibition reception on Friday, April 20, is catered by seniors from the high schools’ culinary programs.

 

All City High School Senior Show
Open Sketch
Wednesday, April 25, 2018, 5pm – 6:30pm
Museum of Art

Join the museum for a relaxing evening of open sketch in the gallery featuring the art pieces of the All City High School Senior Show. Pick a piece from the exhibition and practice your sketching skills. Don’t worry about bringing any supplies; the museum will provide all drawing materials and optional seating.

 

Reuse and Recycle Fashion Show

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department and Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) will host the sixth annual Reuse & Recycle Fashion Show in honor of Earth Day. The show will present outfits made from reused and recycled materials. KLCB is currently seeking participants of all ages to act as models or volunteer to assist in the free, public event that will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 21st, on the Plaza de Las Cruces. March 14: Duct Tape Crafts
Teens will learn the basics of creating a variety of items such as wallets, bags, cell phone or sunglasses cases, using only duct tape and their imagination.

March 28:   Pins and Magnets
Teens will learn to design their own expressive pins and magnets using recycled material and art supplies to make unique flair for backpacks, clothes or lockers.

Celebrating National Youth Art Month

Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Museum of Art

Join the museums for an evening of music, art, spoken word, and storytelling. This “open mic” event is for all ages, but youth are especially encouraged to attend this event in celebration of Youth Art Month! The theme for this event is “Building Community through Art.”

 

Historic Monument to Women Veterans

The City of Las Cruces and the United Military Women of the SouthWest (UMWSW) will formally dedicate the Women Veterans Monument at 10 am Saturday, March 10th at Veterans Memorial Park, 2651 Roadrunner Parkway. The historic monument, one of only a few such tributes honoring military women of the United States Armed Forces, features six life-size bronze statues representing Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Army National Guard women in detailed uniforms from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War and current eras.

In collaboration with the UMWSW, the City of Las Cruces Museums has created a temporary photo exhibit of local women veterans which can be seen at the monument during the dedication. Also, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library will feature a special section dedicated to women veterans in its month-long Women’s History Month display.
